Turkey Cookies

Today I baked Turkey Cookies.  What are turkey cookies you ask?  Simply food colored sugar cookies in the shape of turkeys.  Pictures coming later, but it was fun.  It's been a while since I from-scratch made cookies.  A few weeks ago I made White Russian Cupcakes.  Serious win.  Not sure why I've been in such a baking mood, but I have been.  Also, I don't have an electric mixer, so I have to do it all by hand.  HOLY CRAP I NEED AN ELECTRIC MIXER.  Maybe for the holidays?

Credit Card Fraud

Today as I checked my bank account statement, I realized that someone has been using my card, cleaning out my checking account, spending minimum $150 at each place.  FML.

On a sidenote, last night I made a delicious meal from the cookbook my dude bought me.  Parmesan and Herb Crusted Beef Roast, and it actually turned out pretty good.  I wish I had pictures, maybe next time.  I got a total of 4 cookbooks from him, and I've been going through them, dog-earing the pages with delicious sounding recipes.  I look forward to trying them out, hopefully 1 new recipe a week.

I Love Butler!

I think I'm the only person in the world who picked Butler to beat Pitt in my bracket.  Was that game not ridiculous?

I was out watching the fight with MB in Eastern market at the Ugly Mug.  Then we wandered down to Pour House.  I haven't been feeling all that well reacently since Mike and Mike's birthday and then St. Patrick's Day.  Oh St. Patrick's day.  Let me just tell you, never go to Chinatown when NCAA tournament is there AND it's a national drinking holiday.  It was a disaster.  Then we met up with friends at a new beirgarten called Standard near U st.  After that, we bounced around to Bar Pillar and Sullys and then cabbed home.

About this mixed signals thing I mentioned in the last post, I've talked it over with many people and him, and all I can say is....Oh, boys, you're so stupid.  In the end, I just was honest, and he's been amazing.  He even helped me pack yesterday and watched basketball with me and took me and MB out last night.

Speaking of last night, let me just describe the fucking weirdest metro ride ever.  We get to Capitol South metro where this group of people are holding this girl up who is collapsing from alcohol, then the metro lady comes over and tries to save her.  We go downstairs and this guy starts chatting with us, and it turns out he's their underage gay friend.  He then missed his metro with the rest of his friends and metroed with us to Metro Center where he consistently asked MB to go get Jumbo Slice with him, although he's gay and was telling us about how this was his first time wearing makeup.  Followed by this clown leaving, two more got on the metro and started talking with MB.  She had a whole conversation with them lying, telling them she was from Canada.  Then the two guys texted each other....while sitting next to each other.  Ridiculous.  I was so over it.

Today I went to Rosslyn and ate my first Dim Sum.  Well maybe not, but they brought it around on carts and it was such a delicious brunch.  And I really liked the company.

Tomorrow is moving day for me and Zig.  I.am.nervous.  And obviously excited.  I love living alone, but I know that this will be fine and very fun.  Sigh, ok, here we go.

Tree is Down

Today I had to work an early shift and then MB and I went to Crumbs in Clarendon.  They were giving away free cupcakes because they just opened.  I'm not big on cake honestly, and cupcakes don't really do it for me, but I figured I'd try it.  I got the Grasshopper, chocolate with mint frosting and chocolate chips.  It was pretty good, but it's the size of a fucking muffin.  It's so heavy and will take me a few sittings to actually get through.

Then I ran quickly to Pentagon City to return something, but ugh, that place is such a disaster.  I came home and took the tree down, now there is this empty space in my apartment.  It stares at me and is angry that it doesn't have a cute tree in it.  I also dug out my ironing board to throw out.  This ironing board has a story and a history with it, because it was bought for me by somebody I thought I wanted to be with back in 2008.  He was a total relationship failure, and for some reason I kept the board.  Did I mention that I haven't had an iron in over a year?  So my mom bought me a steamer for Christmas, and today I threw out the ironing board.  I feel good.

Last night, MB, Zig, and I met for happy hour at the Bottom Line.  I love that bar.  $1 Miller Lites on Friday night?  Yes please.  Tonight MB and I will be going to Rustico to have dinner and drinks.  Also there will be some playoff football watching perhaps.

Yet again, 2011>2010.

List of Rules

1. Cardio
2. Double Tap
18. Limber Up

I'm sitting here watching Zombieland and just hanging out.  Have you seen it?  It's pretty awesome, even though I never would have thought I would like a movie like it.

Anyways, obviously I'm so excited about the new role with my company and today's just been so great.  I went and got a hair cut and bought 2 sweaters.  I've also been slaving away in the kitchen.  How does that one saying go....something like, chefs and bakers are different because bakers follow recipes and chefs don't.  I only say that because I'm somewhat awful with recipes.  I'm much better when I just kind of substitute things or make my own creations.

Well, something like that.  Today I made chicken and risotto.  I marinated the chicken in lemon juice, pepper, sun-dried tomato pesto, and a bit of olive oil.  Then I cooked the risotto (which I'm admitting was from a box) but was still delicious.

Nothing special, but I just get a nice feeling when I cook.  And hello, the leftovers are awesome!

Birthday Par-tay!

Tonight is my birthday party, because obviously I wasn't going to get obliterated on a Monday night.  I mean, not like I've never done that before.  Never......hahaha.

Anyways, yesterday I had an interview for a new role within my company and I think it went well and I'm pretty excited to hear next week whether or not I got it.  The guy seemed really decent and pretty cool.  Then I met with my career counselor, a higher up person who helps you "navigate" your way during your time at the company.  We've talked a ton over the last few months, but this was the first time I met her.  She seemed nice.  After battling HORRIBLE Mclean traffic, I met up with katmcd and her friend Mimi at Chef Geoff's for some happy hour beers and food.  Very interesting.  We were supposed to go to the Curbside Cookoff, but they were in line and all of the vendors had run out of food, so they wandered to Chef Geoff's.  It was my first time there and it was PACKED.  At Chef Geoff's, I got chips with like, powdered cheddar, and a side of ranch.  Delicious, but strange.  They had eaten a mushroom pizza and said it was good.

Afterwards, we went to Courthouse and stopped by Ireland's Four Courts.  Mimi had gone home and katmcd and I were headed to a suprise birthday party in Courthouse and weren't sure if the birthday girl had arrived so we were killing some time and listening to some live Irish music.  It too was packed and had a lot of guys which we both appreciated.  When we got the "all clear" from Legs, we trekked to her apartment that she shares with her boyfriend for her very good friend (also both of these girls are ADPis) Bryn's suprise party.  I hadn't seen Bryn in a few years, (and we saw Jess in Orlando last weekend when they were running the Epcot Half Marathon) but it was pretty nice and we got to chat a lot with some younger ADPis there and overall just had a nice Friday night.  They all headed into Georgetown for an ADPi Barbie Crush Party and katmcd and I went home.  Then I dropped my damn phone and cracked the screen.  UGHHHHHH.

Today I have to go to work today from until around 5ish and then I'll come home, get ready and head out to DC.  Metro is being a total bitch this weekend though.  RUDE.  But we'll just walk.

Also, can I just please say, having a 30 degree variation throughout the day is not ok.  The fact that it's low 50s and then is going to be 80 today makes it next to impossible to dress for going outside.  Please decide...summer or fall.  Thank you!

In A Trance

Since I'm like total zone out girl today, I'll just leave you with this:

Sorry but I love this song and both video versions.  And hi, Enrique is HOT.

Oh, and a mini review of Occidental:

The restaurant was nestled in between no less than 4 metro stops, but I chose Metro Center.  It as a gloomy and rainy evening but inside the restaurant was nice quiet atmosphere, full of framed solo pictures or portraits of famous people, mostly politicians I think.

I asked the waitress what she would suggest, and to my annoyance she said, "Well our meat and fish are delicious and are very popular."  All that's on their menu (mainly) is meat and fish.  I was hoping for some more like...direction.

Katmcd and I decided to split the Cheese and Crab Fondue for an appetizer.  This was amazing and so filling but the crab meat was delicious.  They only brought out 5 little pieces of toast for this, and as katmcd is taking the 5th piece, she says, "Why would they only give you 5 pieces of toast for this entire bowl?"  In truth, it was a lot of dip.  No sooner did she finish that sentence, that someone brought out more toast saying how he saw that we were empty.  Random, but very nice.

katmcd had the NY Strip.  It looked very good, and thinking back, I wish I would have gone with my guy and got the Filet.  She said it was pretty good, but expected a bit more from presentation and sides or sauces.

I got the Rainbow Trout stuffed with Crab Meat.  The fish itself was pretty good and a lot of crab meat was given, but I admit that I'm a bit of a sauce person.  There were 2 on my plate, one orange one that I really didn't like, and one creamy white sauce that was over some peas and other beans, that was ok at best.

Maybe I was just too stuffed from the appetizer.  Overall it was a nice experience though.  I really enjoy trying different restaurants and food.  Happy birthday to katmcd and I!

Oh Sorority

Tonight is pref night at my alma mater, GW.  I was an ADPi there and still feel like that sorority changed my life.  probably around 60% of my current friends are ADPis (that's almost 5 years after we graduated college).  My little was a freshman when she came through, I was a senior, and now she's 21 and graduated and working.  We get to meet for cocktails and I get really confused about it.  I'm feeling kind of sad that I'm not there still living in the sorority house and running around campus like crazy prepping for class or for some random party we're having.  Watching the videos that have been posted from different recruitment nights, I get that butterfly feeling of going through recruitment and opening my bid day envelope.  I was only 17.  Did I mention that in 1 week I turn 25?  Holy crap time is flying.

Anyways, tonight is katmcd and I's joint birthday dinner, and this year it's at Occidental.  It looks delicious.  It's also the last week of kickball for the year, and Friday we're Disney World bound.  Yay!

Whipped Cream Bear Paw

So, what exactly is a whipped cream bear paw?

First, you put a pile of whipped cream in your hand (or bear paw).

       +

Then, you basically wipe someone in the face.  That is a whipped cream bear paw.  And it's what I received last night at kickball.

Kickball was a big blur.  I know I told katmcd at 8pm that I was totally wasted.  Just take a look at this email for proof (this event took place after we left the bar and were sitting at FB Metro stop):

"Best introduction ever:

Loud and obnoxiously drunk Sarg to fellow kick-baller: "HAVE YOU MET TOM?!?!"

Random kid I lived with first-year of college who just happened to be walking down the stairs of the Metro: "Yes, actually I have"

Sarg: "Who the fuck is he?"

I kinda pity her, she lives in the same building as him lol.
-- Tom"

This kid also had 26 cans of soup.

Twilight Zone part 1

Part 2 and really most of part 1 will come tomorrow since I'm honestly just wayyyyy too exhausted to function.  So quickly, I'll just talk about Friday night.  katmcd and I met up at Rugby in Georgetown for what was supposed to be a sorority group happy hour and turned out being me, katmcd, and our friend Angela just catching up.  I rarely see AG and it was just so nice to catch up and see what's going on in her life.  We had a couple of Orange Crushes and then katmcd and I packed up and metroed to Capital South metro (because AG said with such authority that that's where we needed to go) to meet up with R, K2, MB, and A at Art and Soul for Restaurant Week.  It was our original restaurant pick and we were happy they extended it so we could all go.  As we found out, Capital South is NOT near the restaurant.  We walked for like a solid 20 minutes before finally getting there and as we did, we were seated at an outside table.

It started out somewhat decent, we ordered our meals, our bottles of wine, and started eating some delicious corn bread rolls they had.  Soon, our first course came out.  I had shrimp with cheese grits and chow chow.  There were 3 extremely large delicious shrimp that looked grilled still on the skewer over grits.  This dish was my favorite of all the 3 we had.  The only logistical error was I would have preferred the shrimp off the skewers or at least tail free.  The second dish came, but we all still had our finished appetizer plates, so that was a bit odd.  I had a pork chop over risotto with caramelized onions.  The pork chop was very delicious but way too salty, even for me.  The risotto and onions were amazing also.  Admittedly, pork chops are not my favorite food, but I had fish for appetizer and I like to switch things up.  katmcd and K2 had some scallops over collard greens and they both said they enjoyed it.  R and A had the ravioli with sweet onion cheese.  They both were pretty disappointed with their meals, and while I understand ravioli isn't always the best dish to order, it's what they wanted and it should have been delicious.  Finally desert came and I had ricotta cheesecake with strawberries.  It was mediocre at best.  And as a self-proclaimed cheesecake lover and judger, I wasn't a huge fan.  A couple of the girls had this chocolate/caramel/popcorn bar thing and they said it was ok.  The service was also awful.  AWFUL.  And the girls seemed to be acting so strange. It was a bizarre experience.

So after we ate, we tried to get the bill, and I spoke up to the waiter, asking if he could split the bill by the bottles of wine.  MB and K2 split a $50 bottle of red wine, and A, katmcd, R and I split a $35 bottle of white wine.  And sorry, but I wasn't about to pay for their wine.  He said he couldn't do that, so I asked if he could then bring a pen so we could designate amounts for the check.  So K2 got the check, and figured out what she and MB owed, and then just handed the check to me.  Uhm, you couldn't just do both?  So I write down everybody else, and we pay.  I went to the restroom with A and R.  MB, katmcd and K2 go outside.  There was some mini-drama bc some of the girls were being extra sensative about weird things and being overly bitchy about others' opinions about the food and restaurant.  (hi, everyone has their opinion, that's why we go to these dinners together....to eat, and to discuss the food.) It was awkward.  So E Lawyer, R's bf, came and picked us all up and drove us back to Ballston which was SUPER NICE.  katmcd and I went to the pub to meet up with Zig and J Coupon, while I'm guessing MB and K2 went to Carpool maybe?  I don't know. Oh well.

The rest of the weekend was so ridiculous and amazing and I'll talk about them tomorrow.

Edit: I forgot some funny stuff about the bar afterwards that I wanted to quickly recap.  At Tortise and Hare, I saw this extremely tall guy, but he wasn't cute and was wearing this blue striped polo.  I tried to turn to Zig and tell him that I thought the guy looked like a tall smurf when he decided to lecture me on only seeing height and then being blinded by it.  I was just trying to laugh at the guy, not hit on him.  Zig continued, "You can only look at people here(he made that line with his hand that was right at my forehead) and up here(as tall as him...about 6'3")."  Oh ok Zig.  It was also dopelganger weekend and on Friday night, we met Zig in about 20 years.  I have a pic of this man, they are identical.  J Coupon on the other hand, saw this really drunk guy dancing with this girl.  At one point, the dude took his sandals off and began jigging around and before we knew it, J Coupon was matching this absurd man, shoes off to the side, and Irish jigging.  Weird night.

CityShopGirl

CityShopGirl sent out an email today with a coupon from Taberna Del Alabardero in downtown for a free pitcher of Sangria. CSG FTW! Now I've never been to TDA, but I think for that free pitcher I'd be willing to try it.

Also, as this weekend was all about pool time and good times, MB and I went to Big Buns. HOLY BANANAS it was so delicious. I totally recommend it to anyone in the Ballston/VA Sq area if you want a ridiculous awesome burger or chicken sandwich. I could only eat half my burger and a bit of fries, and taking them home so I could eat them as leftovers was simply amazing.

This week, well this month at work is going to be seriously slow. I'm not looking forward to it.

In another random event this weekend, my friend went home with some guy she met at The Guards on Saturday night. I guess she wasn't feeling it, so she left. She walked about 3 minutes before remember she forgot her ring there. She walked back, and I guess the guy was asleep, but the door was open. As a parting gift, she pocketed some dvd of a movie she likes. HAHAHAH, not sure what she was thinking but it's pretty awesome.

And lets not forget the new obsession of classes at Gold's. Last night I ventured over to the gym to take Sports Conditioning. Sometimes I can suprise myself with how mean I am to my body. This class seriously was awesome but so incredibly hard. Today my shoulders and upper back/neck is sore, my calves are on fire, and walking the stairs is damn near impossible. Obviously, it did great things for me. I totally recommend taking it, preferrably with Andy. Because hi, he's cute.
