Army 10 Miler Finisher

So another year, another (my second!) Army 10-Miler.  I'm so proud to say that Kathleen and I took 10 minutes off our last 10-Miler time!  I'm not a super fast runner, and I do take walking breaks, but I'm just really happy with that time.  It makes me feel a bit more confident especially since I really did no training more than running like, 3 miles at a time, and only for the last few weeks.  I think this will make the 1/2 marathon in January a bit more easy.

And in 3 weeks, I just have to run 6 miles for a 10K, my first ever 10K.  I think that's backwards though, aren't you supposed to start with the small distances?  Oops.

Yay running!

I Promise I'll Be Better

I have honestly just been too busy and didn't feel like writing much.  Things I've done in the past 3 months:

River Tubing
Finished up my latest work contract
Found a new contract
Went to AZ for my cousin's wedding
Went to 4 baseball games
Took my car into the dealership 3 times
Preakness
Gold Cup
Saw Friends with Benefits
Saw Bridesmaids
Vacationed in Riviera Maya
Went to Colombia
Visited Boston
Was given a stuffed lobster.  I love that lobster.

Oh, and I shopped.......a lot.  I did a lot of little stuff in there too, but that's the bulk of it.  Speaking of shopping, today I bought the cutest pair of flowery wedges from DSW.  It was raining, I figured shoes were in order.

ANDDDDDDDD....in 8 days, I get to see this man again(even though I'm deeply saddened by his recent nuptials):

YAY FOOTBALL!!!!

Balls to the Wall

Today is the start of one of my favorite times of the year.  CAN Volleyball starts today for me.  CAN is an alumni group that does all kinds of sports and other events.  This is my 5th, count em, 5th season playing for this team.  I started when I was still in college.  It's coed, competitive volleyball.  It's really intense, I've gone to the hospital from this league thinking I broke my hand.  And we play double headers that kick my ass.  I LOVE IT.  It's also one of the only things that I do that none of my friends do.

My team has changed over the years.  In the last year alone we had 2 marriages and 2 babies.  All of my friends/teammates are about 5 years older than I, so that probably makes sense.  I'm very happy for everyone but I feel like they are making such great progress in life while mine just stays stagnant.  Oh well, I appreciate Sundays now for not only football, but for volleyball.

Like a Duck

I'm just sitting here, calm on the surface, but really anxious and busy and crazy under the surface.  My new role has been nutso.  It feels like I've been on this project for weeks, but it's only been 4 working days.  It's honestly so great though.  I feel totally different about work than I did, even from just a month ago.  I knew work could feel like this.

There's a lot going on and I think I can just honestly say how happy I am that this year is coming to a close.

Last night, katmcd and I went to see Brandon Flowers in concert at the 930 club.

I love him with the Killers, and I've seen them in concert before.  But I really didn't know much of his stuff.  It was a really great concert.  I love watching him perform and I really liked his solo music.  We were standing on the balcony up against the rail and some bitch asked katmcd if she could move down.  She said, "uhm, no, I've been here since 7pm so I could have a spot."  That girl was rude and we just stood there.  Somehow, we also ended up above what I dubbed as "couples corner."  When we looked down from the balcony, everywhere was couples.  Some were cute, some were just bizarre, and others were flat out tanked.  I don't know, I just felt a little sad watching them though.  It's probably just the holidays, and I can drink that sadness away.

In other news, this weekend katmcd and I are driving to VA Beach for the Surf N' Santa 10-Miler.  We had so much fun at the Army 10-Miler that we decided to do another.  No pressure, it's not about the running time, it's just about completing it and really enjoying being there.  Then we'll party that night and head home on Sunday.  I've never been to VA Beach and I think it'll just be super fun.

I cannot believe that it's December.

Beers at 9am

Tomorrow morning, katmcd, MB, and I will be at this:

 v.

It's just at FedEx which is convenient. We have a full tailgate setup ready with cornhole, and food and mimosa mix ready to go.  It'll be my second college football game ever.  It's not that I never liked college football (and we already know about my obsession with pro-football) but my college didn't have a football team, so I never really got into it.  I'm really excited to go and tailgate and just have a lovely little Saturday.

Army 10-Miler Pics

Here are pics from the Army 10-Miler that katmcd, MB, and I ran on Sunday.

Did I mention how great of a time I had or how proud I am that we did this and all got through it....and are doing another one in December???  Awesome.

Army 10-Miler

Well, I've been avoiding this post for a while, but it's probably time to divulge more about this weekend's grand event.

Katmcd, MB, and I will be doing the Army 10-Miler this Sunday.  Now back in April, we had all signed up for this race and the Marine Core Run Amuck, which I talked about here and here.  I have no idea what I was thinking when I signed up.  Maybe I thought that I'd get into running shape and follow a real training plan.  Maybe I thought I'd start to enjoy running.  These things never happened.

I'm really not a runner.  I never have been.  I just get so bored by running, and then my knee hurts (I had full ACL reconstruction in 2005), and then I'm tired.  I've been a sport-with-a-ball athlete my entire life.  Volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball.  None of these included long distance running.  And I've always said, I'm slow at running, but put a ball in front of me, and I guarantee that I'll run a bit faster.  (Hahah, that could go in a different direction....oops)  And let's just throw in that I've only run 1 race in my entire life and it was a 5K on Thanksgiving day in 2008.

MB is a runner.  She did her first 10 mile race this spring/summer at the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler.  I know MB will run a lot of this race and she'll want to go faster than us, but I really appreciate that she wants to start with us.  She'll sit back and wait for katmcd and I's "corral" to start.  Katmcd, like me, will admit that she's not much of a runner.  We joke about our lack of running desire a lot, but like me, katmcd likes to run in soccer and other sports.

After weeks of freak-outs about this event, I think we've decided that we're going to run as much as we can, and then walk when we need to and just enjoy the race.  That's the best way to look at it right?

We'll all go to brunch and watch football afterwards and try not to die.  I'm honestly getting really excited, but I'm also horribly nervous.  This seems like a really intense event.  I just want to do my personal best.  Wish us luck!

Almost to the Finish Line

Well, tonight is the final night of kickball for the year.  It's been a fun time and even though we never win on the field, we always win at the bar.  We're not obnoxious or loud-mouthed.  We're the fun drunks, the kind who black out at 8pm but aren't falling or throwing up.  We play flip cup and win a lot and quack a lot.  We're the Mighty Drunks.

It took a lot of will power, but I refrained from signing up with my other friends for Skeeball.  I know it doesn't really matter, because I'll be there almost every Wednesday showing my support for them and just having fun, playing or not.  I'm just focusing on saving money for my next big trip and figuring out what to do with my apartment and moving, etc.  25 is coming in 4 days and I know it's going to be full of great things.

DISNEY TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Beginning to Feel a lot Like Fall

This weekend was simply fantastic.  Katmcd's bday celebrations went really well, with a few random moments one of which included a few of the guys we were with last night running into basically a brawl with a bunch of high school looking black kids beating up a homeless man.  And this was right at Front Page, right outside the Dupont Metro.  So weird.  I went and watched football with J Coupon today and YAY COWBOYS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I'm just watching my new boyfriend that I've just gotten into a relationship with on the Rams....James Laurinaitis....delicious.  (and he went to Ohio State, so I know katmcd would approve)

Must Be Driven by a Pirate Cuz the Board Says ARR

Tonight's kickball theme is hats.  I will be wearing my adu hat (see post here).  Most people just wear baseball caps.  These are some that I'd like to see:

Happy Thursday!

Also, please check this video out if you live in DC.

An Open Letter to the Cowboys

Dear Dallas Cowboys,

I LOVE you.  I really do.  Every Sunday, I shower and get all dolled up and put on my Tony Romo jersey.  I put on a smile, grab a beer and joyfully anticipate the beat down of other teams.  However, I have some issues with you I feel I should address.

1. Please please start playing with some discipline.  I've had enough of these horrible penalties and I can't blame the refs when you blatently hold the other team, especially when there's 3 seconds left and we score the tying touchdown.

2. Stop coming from behind.  HEY, get your mind out of the gutter.  What I mean is, we need to take a lead, and keep it.  My heart can't take all of this "let's stage this awesome comeback with 1 minute left."

3. GET A KICKER.

4. Start winning.  I know it's just the beginning of the season, and even if you lose every game, I'll still remain a loyal fan, but I like winning.  I like when my team wins.  And being a Cowboys fan in the middle of Redskins country is hard, and it's easier when we win.

I think that's it for right now.  Like I said, please don't make me have a heart attack at a young age due to our lack in playing abilities and coordination.

All my love,
Sarg

Whipped Cream Bear Paw

So, what exactly is a whipped cream bear paw?

First, you put a pile of whipped cream in your hand (or bear paw).

       +

Then, you basically wipe someone in the face.  That is a whipped cream bear paw.  And it's what I received last night at kickball.

Kickball was a big blur.  I know I told katmcd at 8pm that I was totally wasted.  Just take a look at this email for proof (this event took place after we left the bar and were sitting at FB Metro stop):

"Best introduction ever:

Loud and obnoxiously drunk Sarg to fellow kick-baller: "HAVE YOU MET TOM?!?!"

Random kid I lived with first-year of college who just happened to be walking down the stairs of the Metro: "Yes, actually I have"

Sarg: "Who the fuck is he?"

I kinda pity her, she lives in the same building as him lol.
-- Tom"

This kid also had 26 cans of soup.

Push the Button

So today is Tuesday.  Typically I have my company softball league on Tuesdays, but tonight is the last game for my fun non-company league so I'll be going to that.  Last night after work I was texting and getting in my car and my phone repeadetly shut off and restarted.  This is actually a common occurance with my phone and this is now the 2nd time I've had to replace it.  I have the Motorola Backflip and don't have a clue why I switched away from Blackberry.  I cannot wait to get a new BB.  My little from sorority days is actually staying with her friend, randomly enough in my apartment building, until she moves into her new place this weekend.  She came up for a quick glass of wine and to vent about stuff.  I <3 her.  <> love.

Also, what would you think if some guy told you that he didn't like crowded bars?
1. what bar isn't crowded?
2. if it's not crowded, it's probably SUPER boring.
3. I guess we won't be hanging out because I go to bars....a lot.

Fantasy Results

For any football junkies like me out there, last night was MB, K2, and I's fantasy football draft.  It was drastically different than last year.  We weren't at the bar with like 8 of us, all with our computers, and taking a full 5 minutes to draft a pick.  It was the 3 of us, at MB's place with food and some beer, 1 1/2 minutes to draft and we were done in an hour.  Bizarre.  Anyways, I think I got some great picks, and with the one exception where I spaced out and drafted someone who's about to be suspended for 6 full games, I was pretty happy. And I fixed that mistake right away.  So....here's my team.

I Killed a Shark

Tony Romo
Fred Gore
Marion Barber
Calvin Johnson
Mike Sims-Walker
Hines Ward
Brent Celek
Shayne Graham
San Fransisco 49ers

Matt Ryan
Steve Breaston
Chris Cooley
Jerome Harrison
Vincent Jackson(he's the suspended player, I picked up Mario Manningham as a back-up)
Dallas Cowboys

How do you think I did?

With Age Comes Wisdom

Today one of my very good friends turns 30.  I've known him for just over 3 years and I'm excited to celebrate with him tonight.  J Coupon always schedules our softball games on his bday, so this year is no different.  We have softball, followed by most likely an outing at the pub.  By the pub, I mean Crystal City Sports Pub.  Maybe you've heard of it, maybe not.  But this place, at least when I was living in CC and the guys lived upstairs, was like home.

The next 3-5 months are going to be crazy tight on money, and crazy busy.  In a month, I'll be headed to Hilton Head for katmcd's 25th birthday, then maybe 2 weeks later is my 25th birthday.  Fun or not? On that note, I'll just leave you with some more hot football players, NFC East edition.

Bradie James(Cowboys):

Graham Gano (Redskins):

Hank Basket and Brent Celek (Eagles):

(Giants):
well, i tried, but i found no hot Giants.  Sorry.

Mud Run My Ass

In exactly 4 days, I will be doing the Quantico Run Amuck.  Why you ask?  I have no idea.  Basically it's a 3 mile course with obstacles and of course, mud pits.  I blame my psycho friends for wanting me to partake in this absurd super early morning event.  This is what I think I'll look like:

This is why I've been doing those sports conditioning classes.  In hopes that I can make this 3 mile run with obstacles and not collapse.  Wish me luck.

Case of the Mondays

Yep, today is a bad day. I woke up and can barely lift my arms or move my legs. I tried to get gas, and the thing read my card fine, but when I attempted to actually pump the gas, nothing came out. That happened twice. I finally gave up and went to the Hess down the street. I don't get what was going on. I'm also trying to deal with a mini-financial crisis. It's not good. I'm so stressed out that I woke up at 3 and tossed and turned for like an hour. I really just wish I was rich, or won the lottery, or inherited a million dollars.

And tonight, I'm playing softball again on my friend Mike's team. Let's hope for no injuries.
