Happy Friends Giving!

For 4 years now I have had friends giving instead of family thanksgiving.  This year is my year to cook the turkey again.  Wish me luck!

Happy Veteran's Day

I've been so busy lately.  With work, to moving someone in, to taking a trip to Mass.  I can't even stop to think about day to day activites, but I will stop and say a very happy Veteran's day to everyone.  Thank you so much to everyone who's served our country.  Much appreciated!

Oh Hey 2011

Happy New Year friends.  How is it treating you so far?

Let me just tell you....in the epic battle that is going to be 2011 Bad Life Decisions v. Sarah (Good Life Decisions), I am already down like 10 to 0.

Last night was wonderful though.  My friend A and her bf D hosted a really nice pregame get-together and we drank plenty of Boones Farm and some really randomly delicious strawberry champagne type drink and dirty shirleys and beer and power hour and crab cakes.  Oh man, it was great.  Then me, mb, zig, and jcoupon tried to get into Rira, but they had a 20 dollar cover and a line that was at a dead stop.  These 2 guys behind us had just come from Hard Times and decided to head back there.  I started talking to them and we decided to tag along.  Of course, my bartender friend Joey is working so we got to hang out with him.  We all had gotten some party favors and hats from A's party and we were taking some pics and taking a lot of shots.  A LOT OF SHOTS.  I think my tab was like 15 dollars.  SWEET.

Following the champagne toast and a lot of alcohol, we went to Silver Diner.  I honestly have barely any recollection of eating my delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, and home fries which is kind of sad.

I woke up this morning at 8 fucking o'clock.  8 AM.  FML.  After talking to one of my coworkers today we decided it was because of all of the sugar in the boones and champagne and stuff.  I went to my couch and watched the Rose Parade and some of Eurotrip.  How fucking awesome is that movie?  It's so stupid, but it's really hilarious.  Anyways, I had to go to work a bit this afternoon and tomorrow I have to work super early, and then I'll go watch my Cowboys in their last game of the season.

Honestly, I'm already having a great year though.  Last night was spent with some of the greatest people/fake family members and it was low key, relaxed, and knocked me out.  Yay 2011!

Things Never to Use as a Pickup...Story

It all started with this giant ring on my finger at the bar on Wednesday.  It's not real, but it's large and has lots of (fake) diamonds.

Who bought you that ring?  You bought it yourself?  Oh well you deserve someone to buy you jewelry. (Uhm, yeah thanks are you offering?)
You haven't had sex in how long?  Wow that's a long time. I get laid about every 4th or 5th trip (this man travels for his job, which equates to maybe 3-4 cities in a week or so, minimum 2 trips a month.)

I may have paraphrased some of that, but the gist is that this man katmcd was chatting with kept talking to MB and I after katmcd left and those are a few gems that he said to me.  I knew someone who did a job like his once, so I think he was kind of shocked to see that I called him out hooking up with girls so much.  Admittedly he was pretty nice and took a lot of my shit but honestly, I really don't need a man who doesn't live here, travels 90% of the time, and is at an average rate of 6 girls a year.  I',m not really judging though, because I was crazy awful in college, but at my age, and his age for that matter, that seems a bit high.  And that's certainly not the point.

The holidays have been overall pretty nice and filled with a lot of ice skating, movie watching, football watching, and boozing.  Speaking of movie watching, JCoupon, Zig and I saw Tron Legacy yesterday.  HOLY BADASS MOVIE BATMAN.  It was so awesome.  And Daft Punk did a great job with the soundtrack.  Yay.

Happy Last Full Week of Work in the Year!

So last night was amazing and here's what I came out of the party with:
1. No bar tabs
2. A fantastic dinner
3. A Jack/Diet Coke, 4 glasses of wine, 2 Miller Lites, 1 stolen Heineken, 1 stolen whiskey something
4. New friendships with coworkers and Erin's friend date
5. Blisters on my feet from my heels
6. My coworker was talking to some cop about her car when my group was leaving the bar.  We all started screaming, "Woooooooo!" and "Hot Cop!"
7. People loved my koozie
8.  We love to take over the entire back room of Sign of the Whale.
9. Our entire project team loves to drink and get down on the dance floor.  Ridiculous, I know.

Tonight I'm going to see Love and Other Drugs with MB.  I wanted to see it so I'm pretty excited.  I'm also so freakin exhausted and I can sleep in tomorrow.  It's going to be great!

Elementary School

You know what is kind of cool?  I just got invited to an Elementary School reunion with about 25 of my old classmates.  Some of them still hang out together which I just think is incredible.  I moved to Texas when I was 11, which was going into 7th grade, and I lost touch with almost everyone.  Through the wonders of facebook, I slowly started becoming friends with them and I get to stalk their lives.  It's crazy.  We knew each other almost 20 years ago.  I'm almost very sad to be missing this get-together.

Tomorrow is my project's holiday party.  It's a nice dinner and drinks, hopefully followed by an awesome after party.
1. I hope it's fun
2. MB is my date, I know she'll be a good time
3. I hope I'm not at work until 6

I Knew It

I was at work until 7:15 tonight.  I pulled an 11 hour day.  YIKES.

My mom comes on Friday and today I received a lovely present from my aunt.  The box had the designer name on it, and I happen to have almost no self control so I went ahead and wrapped the whole box in Christmas paper.  Right now under my tree is that box and shoes.  I was using the wall where my tree now stands to let my shoes hang out in a row.  It works, and shoes and bags, that's what every (most) girls love.  Including me!  I'm hoping my mom will come buy me groceries though.  I was reading another girl's blog and it made me laugh because like her, I only have beer, Firefly vodka, and some yogurt in my fridge.  In my freezer is ice and Sky vodka.  Oops.

Also, why the hell is it so damn cold?

Like a Duck

I'm just sitting here, calm on the surface, but really anxious and busy and crazy under the surface.  My new role has been nutso.  It feels like I've been on this project for weeks, but it's only been 4 working days.  It's honestly so great though.  I feel totally different about work than I did, even from just a month ago.  I knew work could feel like this.

There's a lot going on and I think I can just honestly say how happy I am that this year is coming to a close.

Last night, katmcd and I went to see Brandon Flowers in concert at the 930 club.

I love him with the Killers, and I've seen them in concert before.  But I really didn't know much of his stuff.  It was a really great concert.  I love watching him perform and I really liked his solo music.  We were standing on the balcony up against the rail and some bitch asked katmcd if she could move down.  She said, "uhm, no, I've been here since 7pm so I could have a spot."  That girl was rude and we just stood there.  Somehow, we also ended up above what I dubbed as "couples corner."  When we looked down from the balcony, everywhere was couples.  Some were cute, some were just bizarre, and others were flat out tanked.  I don't know, I just felt a little sad watching them though.  It's probably just the holidays, and I can drink that sadness away.

In other news, this weekend katmcd and I are driving to VA Beach for the Surf N' Santa 10-Miler.  We had so much fun at the Army 10-Miler that we decided to do another.  No pressure, it's not about the running time, it's just about completing it and really enjoying being there.  Then we'll party that night and head home on Sunday.  I've never been to VA Beach and I think it'll just be super fun.

I cannot believe that it's December.

Finally, It's Tree Time

How cute is my tree ya'll?

Seriously cute right?  And if you're looking at it, and thinking, is that a football player on her tree, then let me clarify for you.  HELL YES IT IS!  I was gifted the best quarterback in the nfl, Tony Fucking Romo.

It's no secret for my love of him and the Cowboys and I was SO happy to get it.

I worked all week and weekend but managed to buy my tree and a vacuum at Walmart.  Most of my time though was spent working or drinking.  Look at the amount of food me and MB cooked for Thanksgiving with Zig and J Coupon.  It was all delicious too!

But honestly, so much of the last few days was just spent in bars.  Wednesday night was a super fun night at RiRa in which we actually knew someone in the band, Thursday night and last night were at CCSP.  What a really great way to spend the holiday.

Happy Busiest Bar Night!

Tonight is the busiest night at the bars.  Happy Thanksgiving?  Sure.  Today I attempted to go to Walmart to buy my xmas tree.  FUCKING FAIL.  I got off the freeway, turned right and all I could see were red lights for miles.  I bailed immediately.  Maybe I'll try again on Saturday or Sunday.  I really want my fucking tree.

Tomorrow MB and I are waking up at the crack of dawn for our Turkey Trot 5K.  The shirt is so cute though.  On the front it says GBBLGBBL like on a license plate.  But no, I won't be wearing it tomorrow.  I kind of hate those people who wear the race day shirts on the actual race day.

So This is What Working Feels Like

Seriously, the last 2 days have been INTENSE.  I already had to turn in a first draft of a document EOD (end of day) today.  I just have no idea like what is going on.  I mean, I feel great.  I am contributing, and learning so much, and am working great on my own.

Also, I know I'll probably get seriously hated on, but Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday and I'm already hating on it this year.  I'm running in a 5K turkey trot and I just heard the weatherman say that it's going to be freezing.  SWEET.  Not.

I'm tired, can you tell?

Shutterfly Holiday Card Giveaway

Like a few of the bloggers I follow have talked about, I too am partaking in the Shutterfly Holiday Card Giveaway.  I'm pretty excited because unlike some of my blogger friends, I don't really have a family picture to put on the card and it would really challenge my to come up with something creative.  I was thinking I would put some of my favorite pictures of me with friends and my mom in them.

I typically get like "funny" cards or something blue and sparkly, but this year I thought maybe I could try this out.

My favorties are these:

this

this

this

this

What do you think? I mean, I've never been good with communicating with my family, particularly anyone who's not my mom or my aunt, but I've always for years sent out Christmas cards. I like that I at least have 1 tradition and I’m excited to use these picture cards. I mean, my great-grandmother is 92(I think) and I know she likes getting pictures.

I am SO excited for the holidays.  Thanks Shutterfly for getting me even more ready!

Halloween Is My Favorite

While last night was really fun but pretty relaxed, I still think this year was great.  We had a change in plans because the metro was horribly fucked up.  We met at MBs for pregame and some dinner and then went to RiRa in Clarendon.  RiRa is my new favorite bar.  I love the bands and just tend to have a great time when we're there.  Then we popped over to Whitlows which also had a band.  It started to get really busy around 12, we left to try and get back to RiRa but the line was insane.  Tom, katmcd, Al's friend Adam, and I decided to just bail and go to Silver Diner.  After a delicious late-night meal, we got in a cab to get home, but the asshole driver says he will only go to 1 stop.  WTF?  So we cabbed to half-way between our places and then ran home.  It was so damn cold.

Did you see these people last night?  If you did, it was us!

Night of the Living Zoo

Last night was Ri-Di-Cu-Lous.

Katmcd and MB came here and we got some Chinese food to eat while we drank beers and some firefly vodka.  Our costumes were amazing looking.   About 2 hours later we headed for the metro in the frigid cold.  We saw only a few other people in costume and then heard the metro announcer say that there was no trains stopping at Metro Center.  WTF?  So we hopped off at Foggy Bottom and got in a cab.  10 minutes later we were pulling up at the zoo and getting really excited.  I mean, we were already drunk, so anything was going to be excited.

For anyone who's never been to the National Zoo, it's basically a long path down a hill and the exhibits are on either side.  It's free admission (except special events like last night).  We started trekking down the hill to where the ticket takers were, and then b-lined right for the beer ticket table.  4 dollar beers, not terrible.  It was sponsored by Magic Hat and they had this special Green Apple Beer.  It was pretty delicious.  There were a few exhibits open, some magicians and entertainers, and then a tent with bands.  There was also this amazing drum band with like, I don't even know, crazy awesome drummers and they were all dressed as zombies.  It wasn't like Drumline where it was band drums, these were huge African style drums and they made some pretty sick beats.  Then we just jammed to the band and danced around with all of the other crazies.  Randomly enough I ran into one of my volleyball teammates and his wife.

Afterwards, katmcd had convinced our friend Tom to come get us, so he drove us home.  But it was the LONGEST DRIVE EVER.  He took us through Georgetown down M St.  Probably sad for him, but the 3 of us were totally tanked and yelling out the window at everyone in costume.  At one point we had stopped (obviously bc of traffic at 12am), and this man dressed as Fred Flinstone came running up to the car and then JUMPED OVER IT.  What in the fucking world???  I think we all sat there in shock for a solid minute.  What in the hell? Who would jump over someone else's car in the middle of traffic at midnight?  Also, when I say he jumped over the car, he literally jumped and like landed/slid across the roof of the car.  If you know this man, please, send him to the damn circus or cheerleading camp.  He should make a living off of those skills.

Following that drive, we stopped in Courthouse to go to our friend Steak and Leg's Halloween party.  It was pretty nice.  Their apartment is just so cute and they seriously are both so nice and friendly and always make us feel welcome.  It was nice, except for this one part where I literally ran away from this weird man.  I ran around the kitchen and behind Legs' sister's roommate Mike.  We all just laughed about it after that guy left though.  Creepster.

After the nice but short stop at the party, we piled back in the car to go to Taco Bell.  Once there, we were waiting in a line of a few cars, and then this group of men standing outside of the car.  What in the world?  Did these men walk there and like order with the car (bc you can't just walk up to a drive-thru)?  Or were they in that car and all got out to order and pay by themselves?  Honestly, I really don't know.  All I know is that I kept yelling at them out the window.

This was such a crazy fun way to start Halloween.  And I still have another night ahead of me.  Thank goodness I'm not hungover.

Hello Halloween

So as I'm sitting here working from home on Friday, my friend Kate g-chats me.  Since I've been watching the America's Next Top Model marathon I've been a little oblivious and she informed me that a flight was being escorted to JFK by American fighter jets.  WTF.  After watching CNN to just catch up, we continued our chat until I finally just said it how I felt it:

Me: If the world is ending, at least ill be in a sweet costume.   And drunk.
Kate:  correct

Well, I just finished cleaning my apartment and painting my nails and in an hour katmcd will be here and then MB and we'll be all costumed out and ready for Night of the Living Zoo, and then heading to Courthouse for our friend Legs' party.  So so so so excited.  It's frigid cold outside, so liquor jacket and a man dressed as Robin will definitely keep me warm. Right?

Happy first day of Halloween!!

I Don't Really Like Talking About My Flair

I really hate it actually.

So instead, I'll talk about my Halloween costume.  I'm going to be Batman this year.  Mainly it's referring to a TO/Ochocinco reference, but the superhero idea was just too easy.

Polyvore is difficult to use....not to mention my costume was much cheaper than they tried to make it.

Tshirt: $9  Amazon
Shorts: Old school soffee shorts
Shoes: Black tennis from Target for $9
Shoe Laces: Target $1.50
Belt:  Mine is actually just a large yellow ribbon, so it's like a fake belt
Mask: $1.39 from Party Depot
Knee Socks: Old black soccer socks

This is a costume done cheap and comfortable.  We will all still look cute, but not frozen.  I like it.  And our adventure include, but are not limited to these fine events:

Night of the Living Zoo

La Tasca Halloween Party

and other bars we decide to go to.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Halloween Costumes

Well my morning has just been shit as I try and choke back the tears about not getting the job I wanted within my company and realizing that I'm stuck in this......uhm, strange situation.  I really don't want to dwell, so I'm mentioning it here and then I'm going to post some really awesome stuff.  Ready?

This year my 2 friends and I (and maybe more) are going as superheros, but since we're lazy practical and awesome we will just be wearing tshirts with the logos and leggings and masks.  I am going as Batman and think I need this sidekick (although MB is going as Robin and her costume rocks)  (katmcd is going as the Green Lantern and has an awesome light up green ring):

I also need this....minus his really weird bat voice:

What are you going as?
