Happy Friends Giving!

For 4 years now I have had friends giving instead of family thanksgiving.  This year is my year to cook the turkey again.  Wish me luck!

Turkey Cookies

Today I baked Turkey Cookies.  What are turkey cookies you ask?  Simply food colored sugar cookies in the shape of turkeys.  Pictures coming later, but it was fun.  It's been a while since I from-scratch made cookies.  A few weeks ago I made White Russian Cupcakes.  Serious win.  Not sure why I've been in such a baking mood, but I have been.  Also, I don't have an electric mixer, so I have to do it all by hand.  HOLY CRAP I NEED AN ELECTRIC MIXER.  Maybe for the holidays?

Happy Veteran's Day

I've been so busy lately.  With work, to moving someone in, to taking a trip to Mass.  I can't even stop to think about day to day activites, but I will stop and say a very happy Veteran's day to everyone.  Thank you so much to everyone who's served our country.  Much appreciated!

PS....Happy 11/11/11!

Outlet Shopping

So yesterday the dude and I went to the outlet mall.  Originally we had some plans to head to a college football game, but we had friends out of town or taking it easy this weekend, so we followed suit.  I haven't been real hard-core shopping in probably a few years.  I tend to buy 1 or 2 things here or there, but never in bulk-ish.  We both seriously made out on this trip though.

Here's what he had:
Banana Republic: A nice heavy coat and a puffy vest
Brooks Bros:  Sweater ($18-one of the best deals of the day)
Gap:  Sweater and Jeans
DSW: 2 pairs of dress shoes

And what I had:
BR: 2 tanks, a sweater, and 2 blouses
Gap: 2 sweaters
Loft: a sweater
Express: pair of jeans

There's possibly a few things that I forgot, but I paid under $150 for all of my goodies.  That's absurd pricing. I know one of my blouses from BR was like, $5.  I feel so good and am in sweater heaven.

Our closet is exploding though.  I guess that's one major thing to deal with when combining apartments.  Sharing.  I'm bad at it.

Honey Badger don't care how it get done.

I love the honey badger.  He's ridiculous.

Army 10 Miler Finisher

So another year, another (my second!) Army 10-Miler.  I'm so proud to say that Kathleen and I took 10 minutes off our last 10-Miler time!  I'm not a super fast runner, and I do take walking breaks, but I'm just really happy with that time.  It makes me feel a bit more confident especially since I really did no training more than running like, 3 miles at a time, and only for the last few weeks.  I think this will make the 1/2 marathon in January a bit more easy.

And in 3 weeks, I just have to run 6 miles for a 10K, my first ever 10K.  I think that's backwards though, aren't you supposed to start with the small distances?  Oops.

Yay running!

Fall Blog Swap

I mentioned that I signed up for a Fall Blog Swap last week.  The swap was set up by Caroline from Simply Smithwick, Mateya from The Best is Yet to Come and Molly at The Fuschia News.

Last week, I sent my goodies to Rebecca from Southern Charm, and here's what I got in return:

Essie Nail Polish in Power Clutch
Pumpkin Spice Candle
Starbucks Gift Card

I've already tried the nail polish.  It's an awesome color.  Sometimes it looks like grey clay, sometimes like dark green.  And I put some awesome sparkles on it to celebrate the bday week.

Thanks Rebecca!!

I love Fall.

Princess Party!

Today is my birthday!!

I'm 26 today, and I couldn't be happier about life, but do wish I was having a Princess Party.

Sun!

Finally, it's sunny outside.  Granted it was gross and rainy this morning.  It's probably my last week working from home, and I'm really looking forward to getting back in an office environment.

I'm about a week away from running the Army 10-Miler.  And my birthday is next Tuesday.

What is it about September/October/November that are constantly SO busy?  I feel like every week day is packed with happy hours, dinners, and the weekends are full of fall festivities, football, and fun.  That was a lot of f's.  Haha.  I love being so busy and I really appreciate all of the random fun things that we do in fall.

True Life: I Break Hairbrushes

This is my hair brush:

It's now broken and sad.  I think it was just so old that it gave out.  I don't have thick hair or curly hair.  My brush was just tired.

Another great weekend here.  My mom and her husband and his mom were in town and we got to play tourist.  My dude came along and met the fam, and overall we had a great time.  Then dude and I went to a going away party and moved to a hookah bar, coming home around 4am.  Oops.  It was such a great time.  I am so happy.

I've got a great weekend coming up, complete with a MB happy hour and a dinner with katmcd for our ritual birthday dinner(her's last Thursday, mine next Tuesday).  I'm very excited to hang out with them and get some girl time.

I also made like one of the best meals ever on Friday:  Filet Mignon with burst cherry tomatoes, breaded zucchini, blue cheese and dill sauce, and homemade cheesecake brownies, dyed orange (partly for Halloween, partly for my dude since it's his favorite color).  Also, we think we have Halloween costume ideas!!! More to come later.

Tomorrow....LET'S GO COWBOYS!!!!!!

The Dingo Ate My Baby And I Needed New Boots

Oh thank goodness I actually got into the office today!  It was so nice and I actually learned some stuff, which is always nice.

I just bought these:

Like?  Gosh I wish fall was here already.  I'm Boston  bound in early November and I am thinking heavy sweaters, boots and jeans will be my wardrobe for that trip.  Oh and jackets, because duh, it gets cold there.

I've also been debating on signing up for a blog-goodie swap for the fall.  I finally did it, and I couldn't be more excited to shop for fall things for my swap-mate.

Too bad it's 77 with a humidity of like 99% outside.  Boo.

Pintrest

Today I joined Pintrest.  It was just a last minute effort to fill my time up.  And now....I have a problem.

I am addicted to Pintrest.

There, I said it.  And the little easy button on my Google Chrome toolbar is AWESOME.

One of my first pins:  HOW FREAKIN CUTE!!!!

Want

I think I really want a pair of red or other colored jeans.

I saw this picture in the Zappos catalog (btdubs...who knew they had a catalog) of red pants, bright blue heels, and this purple dress on top.  Take away the purple dress, throw on an oversized black off the shoulder sweater, and I think it would make for an amazing outfit.  Seriously.

I Will Not Get Sick

Saturday night the dude and I went via limo and like, 9 other people to the grand opening of this club named Opera.  It was actually a birthday party that we went with.  Holy crapola.  It.was.awesome.  Most of the time, I'm not much of a nightclub/lounge kind of person.  But I admit that every now and then I freaking love it.

Also seriously, the last time I was in a limo was probably high school prom.

But now, I'm still struggling to feel rested and today I started to get that twinging itch in my throat.  I must not get sick.  Not that I'm doing much, but I am really trying to run a little bit every day before the Army 10-Miler and getting sick would stop that.

Dream Big

While I do that, I'm going to get excited about taking the dude out tomorrow night.  He received some big news yesterday and I'm so proud of him and happy for him.  We've started exploring the area he moved to.  There are some really great restaurants there.

Also, wtf rain, I need you to go away because I'm drowning.

Tomorrow I get to go see my friend's brand new baby girl.  Sometimes, I don't get myself.  Typically, you'd have to bribe me like, $1K to even get within 500 feet of a baby, but with Kate and her baby, I just want to spoil her.  Weird.  Hopefully the streets stop flooding for like a day so I can get there and back safely.

Yes Man

Have you seen this movie?  It's so random and funny.  I bought it from Target for $5 today.  Totally worth it.

So while, I'm hanging out at home, I've been on mission clean my closet/clothing out.  I've gotten pretty far too, including buying some fabric boxes today for flip flops and office supplies.  Random assortment, I realize.  I feel better when things are clean.  And right now, about everything else in my life, I feel like a disaster.  I can't believe I'm still just waiting for some job paperwork to come through before I can go in.  That's about 7 weeks I've been just sitting at home.  I AM BORED.

On a separate note, and really a happy one, I've got some great things upcoming and I'm doing my best to keep focused on that.  Trip to Boston/Amherst for UMASS homecoming, Disney World in January for my first 1/2 marathon and Mike's first trip to Disney as an adult, and of course the holidays!!  Today was the first day it actually felt like fall.  I mean, it was cold and wet and miserable.  I was ready today to pull out my sweaters, boots, and trench coat.

YUM!

Oh hi Cam Newton.  Welcome to the big leagues.

Happy weekend!

Grrrrr.....

Frustration is over-taking me today.  I comment on one thing and the person emails me like I told them literally to "back the fuck off."  I only politely asked them to stop something.  P-O-L-I-T-E-L-Y.  Like we don't have enough shit to worry about right now besides earthquakes and hurricanes.

In other news I started attempting to train for the 10 miler I have coming up in October.  This weather is making me so cranky.  Thank goodness for dinner with the girls tomorrow night.

DC Quake

By now, the news of the East Coast earthquake has hit pretty much everywhere.  I was home alone, in my 12th floor apartment just sitting on the couch when it hit.  Being a native Californian (and Texan), I've been in some earthquakes, the biggest being the 1994 one in the Valley in CA.  That one was terrifying because I was very young, it was super powerful, and it hit in the early morning hours.  We had lost power and hot water for days.  I remember showering at our neighbor's house because while he also had no power, he did have hot water.  Go figure.

Anyways, yesterday's quake was no joke and even though it's nothing in comparison to what's happened in Japan and CA, it's still really scary.  I'm really happy and very thankful that as of now, nobody was really hurt, there was no major damage, and my friends and family are safe.

Leather Jackets

Today I walked outside and got a reminder that fall is quickly on it's way.  The weather in our area has been unseasonably mild compared to the heat wave that was July.  For the last few years, I've been searching for the perfect fall leather jacket.  I know sometimes they can be super tacky, and look awful, but I'm still on the hunt.

Here are a few I don't hate:

Motherland

My dude happens to be Russian, and on his request, we watched this new show on Lifetime called Russian Dolls.

It's about these like 6 Russian women in New York City area and they have ridiculous story lines and it's overall an absurd but amazing show.  Highly recommend for anyone who likes the Housewives series or even Jersey Shore, definitely watch it!

Credit Card Fraud

Today as I checked my bank account statement, I realized that someone has been using my card, cleaning out my checking account, spending minimum $150 at each place.  FML.

On a sidenote, last night I made a delicious meal from the cookbook my dude bought me.  Parmesan and Herb Crusted Beef Roast, and it actually turned out pretty good.  I wish I had pictures, maybe next time.  I got a total of 4 cookbooks from him, and I've been going through them, dog-earing the pages with delicious sounding recipes.  I look forward to trying them out, hopefully 1 new recipe a week.

Sorority Wars

While I was in a sorority in college, I admit that our school definitely had a different feel and process than like, large state schools.  That doesn't deter me from being obsessed with every sorority movie or show ever produced.

That brings me to Sorority Wars.  A Lifetime made for tv movie, starring Lucy Hale (aka Aria from Pretty Little Liars) and Amanda Schull (aka Jody from Center Stage).  It's not that great, but I love it.

Nick and Vanessa's Dream Wedding

I watched this today.  I watched Nick marry Jessica many years back, and I LOVE wedding shows, so of course I'd watch.  In general I like him, and I thought I'd like her.  I admit, in this show, she drove me crazy.  So whiney.  Weirdly enough, they were cute together and he seemed to compliment her so well.  He knew exactly when and how to calm her down.  I love that.

TV Marathons

Today is Jersey Shore season 3.  I still love this show and I'm so excited to see Italy get smushed.

A few weeks ago, I saw Friends with Benefits.

I must admit, I didn't love it.  I loved Mila and Justin together, but for some reason I was just expecting more.

I didn't shop today....well at least not for clothing.  Yay!

I Promise I'll Be Better

I have honestly just been too busy and didn't feel like writing much.  Things I've done in the past 3 months:

River Tubing
Finished up my latest work contract
Found a new contract
Went to AZ for my cousin's wedding
Went to 4 baseball games
Took my car into the dealership 3 times
Preakness
Gold Cup
Saw Friends with Benefits
Saw Bridesmaids
Vacationed in Riviera Maya
Went to Colombia
Visited Boston
Was given a stuffed lobster.  I love that lobster.

Oh, and I shopped.......a lot.  I did a lot of little stuff in there too, but that's the bulk of it.  Speaking of shopping, today I bought the cutest pair of flowery wedges from DSW.  It was raining, I figured shoes were in order.

ANDDDDDDDD....in 8 days, I get to see this man again(even though I'm deeply saddened by his recent nuptials):

YAY FOOTBALL!!!!

A Sleepover Fit for a Royal

So I leave for Arizona on Friday to attend my 2nd cousin's wedding. But first, on Thursday night, katmcd, mb, and I are getting together for a royal wedding sleepover.   I bought a lot of OJ for Mimosas, mb is brining cucumber sandwiches and scones, or someting like that.  I'm really looking forward it.

Also, has anyone watched the HBO miniseries with Kate Winslet, called Mildred Pearce?  I AM OBSESSED.  Kate Winslet is awesome in it, but boo to Even Rachel Wood.  She is terrible.  And on another note, there is a lot of sex in it, and somewhat graphic.  And the clothes and hats are amazing.  I watched the first 4 parts in 1 sitting.  I'm finishing up on part 5 this morning as I do some work.

Speaking of work, the shortest day I've worked in about 3 weeks has been 12 hours.  My bosses are being very generous today and letting us all work from home.  I like that they support my team and recognize how hard we're working.  Anyways, back to it.

30 Day Challenge Catch Up - Day 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Holy crap, I realize I'm so behind, but work is CRAZY right now and life is good and when those two things combine, you get Captain Planet.  Wait no, I just tend to get behind on blogging.  So here's a lot of 30-day challenge catch up.

Day 08
A Picture that Makes You Laugh

The current dude hanging around sent me this link:  http://www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/basset-hounds-running

Tell me you're not laughing...just a little bit.

Day 09
A Picture of the Person who has gotten you through the most

My grandma.  She passed away in 2005 but my mom and I lived with her while I was young and she taught me so much.  I miss her every day.  This is from a cruise we took when I graduated high school.  She took me on a 14-night cruise around Hawaii and up to Canada.  It was AMAZING.

Day 10
A picture of the person you do the most messed up things with

See katmcd's blog for day 10.  She made the most fabulous photo montage of us.  I'll also add some here.

Day 11
A Picture of Your Favorite Night

The night we left for Spain.

It was my very first trip to another country besides Canada.  I don't know that I've ever been more excited in my life.

Day 12
A Picture of Something You Love

Disney Movies, specifically Sleeping Beauty

She was always my favorite Disney princess. Two years ago for Halloween the whole group was Disney Characters and of course I was Aurora.
Runner up favorite is Anastasia.

Day 13
A picture of your favorite band or artist

Cascada.

I LOVE Cascada.  Seriously, everything they put out I die for.  But really I like a lot of bands from the Killers to Carrie Underwood to Jay-Z.  But when I hear trance of any kind, I'm in heaven.

Day 14
A picture of something you could never imagine your life without

I consider myself to have a pretty free-spirit and hope that I am as open-minded as possible. For the most part, I'll try anything once.  I'm not usually the idea man/woman, I'm the one the who always says yes, and I'm totally comfortable with that.

Day 15
A picture of something you want to do before you die  (I'm posting now because I'm vaguely sure that I won't tomorrow.)

I want wear a dress like this:

I'd like to get married, hopefully around 30 and when I really know what I want.

Thursday, April 7, 2011

30 Day Challenge-Day 6 and 7

Day 06
A picture of a person you'd like to trade places with.

Beyonce.

Girl is FIERCE.  She's not crazy skinny yet she is gorgeous.  She's got a great attitude, a hot husband and an amazing life.  And she seems to have a really high level of privacy.

Not to mention, I want a love like this:

Day 07
A picture of your most treasured items.

I don't have really a lot of heirlooms or anything.  Besides my family, who you've already seen pictures of, my friends are what I treasure most.  I wonder if that's because I've experienced a lot of young people dying around me.  I love to shop and love to have nice things and I do have many of my great-grandmother's and grandmother's jewelry and stuff, but it's the memories that I treasure more.  So for that, here are just a few of my besties:

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

30 Day Challenge-Day 5

Day 05
A picture of your favorite actor/actress.

Ryan Reynolds

I have a total soft spot for Ryan Reynolds.  Ever since the Proposal and Definitely, Maybe, I've just loved him.  And he is adorable when he smiles.  I was devastated when him and ScarJo announced their divorce, but he just seemed so classy about it.

Monday, April 4, 2011

30 Day Challenge-Day 4

Day 04
A picture of your favorite memory.

Honestly, this one is next to impossible.  I don't have just one memory that sticks out as the best.  So I'll just throw up a couple of my most recent and great memories.

Katmcd already put up one of our most fabulous shared memory of Fat Spiderman in Madrid in 2009.  But here are a couple more:

Finishing the Army 10 Miler October 2010

Halloween 2010

Hilton Head August 2010, quite possibly the most relaxing place ever.

30 Day Challenge-Day 1, 2, 3

Wow, I've been so busy and horribly bad at keeping up with this thing.  Since I was also a little dry for topics to write about, I figured I'd follow in my friend katcmd's footsteps on her blog Leggings are Not Pants, and participate in Beaufort Belle's 30 day challenge.

Since obviously it's already the 3rd of April, I've got a few to catch up on.

Day 01
A picture of yourself and 10 fun facts.

1. My name is Sarah but I feel like nobody ever calls me that. I have a ton of nicknames.
2. I am deathly afraid of scary movies.
3. My idea of a perfect marriage is an amazing husband, no children, fantastic travel, doing something adventurous every day, even if it's just trying new foods.
4. I live for the beach.  I absolutely love the sound of the ocean and the smell of being near a beach.
5. I've never been much of a reader. I guess I read a lot as a kid (hello babysitters club and boxcar children) and somehow just fell out of love with it.
6. I am an only child and LOVE IT.
7. I lived in California and Texas and moved to the DC area almost 8 years ago.
8. I have practically no artistic talent.  I'm a true jock but I can at least appreciate art.
9. I majored in Engineering in college.
10. I can't sew at all.

Day 02
A picture of you and the person you've known the longest.
That's me on the night of my engineering graduation in college.  My mom's on the left, my aunt's on the right.  Both have had husbands come and go and both are now happily in long term relationships with amazing men, but in my head, it's always been the 3 of us (4 of us when my grandma was alive).  Even though I have other family, these 2 wonderful women are what I consider my favorite family.

Day 03
A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

Army Wives cast.  I've watched this show from the beginning and just absolutely cannot stop watching it.  And I cry almost every week when it's on.

I Love Butler!

I think I'm the only person in the world who picked Butler to beat Pitt in my bracket.  Was that game not ridiculous?

I was out watching the fight with MB in Eastern market at the Ugly Mug.  Then we wandered down to Pour House.  I haven't been feeling all that well reacently since Mike and Mike's birthday and then St. Patrick's Day.  Oh St. Patrick's day.  Let me just tell you, never go to Chinatown when NCAA tournament is there AND it's a national drinking holiday.  It was a disaster.  Then we met up with friends at a new beirgarten called Standard near U st.  After that, we bounced around to Bar Pillar and Sullys and then cabbed home.

About this mixed signals thing I mentioned in the last post, I've talked it over with many people and him, and all I can say is....Oh, boys, you're so stupid.  In the end, I just was honest, and he's been amazing.  He even helped me pack yesterday and watched basketball with me and took me and MB out last night.

Speaking of last night, let me just describe the fucking weirdest metro ride ever.  We get to Capitol South metro where this group of people are holding this girl up who is collapsing from alcohol, then the metro lady comes over and tries to save her.  We go downstairs and this guy starts chatting with us, and it turns out he's their underage gay friend.  He then missed his metro with the rest of his friends and metroed with us to Metro Center where he consistently asked MB to go get Jumbo Slice with him, although he's gay and was telling us about how this was his first time wearing makeup.  Followed by this clown leaving, two more got on the metro and started talking with MB.  She had a whole conversation with them lying, telling them she was from Canada.  Then the two guys texted each other....while sitting next to each other.  Ridiculous.  I was so over it.

Today I went to Rosslyn and ate my first Dim Sum.  Well maybe not, but they brought it around on carts and it was such a delicious brunch.  And I really liked the company.

Tomorrow is moving day for me and Zig.  I.am.nervous.  And obviously excited.  I love living alone, but I know that this will be fine and very fun.  Sigh, ok, here we go.

Mixed Signals

If you really want to laugh, do yourself a favor when you're having a rough day and click this link: http://trololololololololololo.com/

It's the stupidest thing EVER.  But it's ridiculously funny.

I went out last night, on a school night, with MB, for Mike from Mike and Mike in the morning's birthday.  I hurt today.  I would seriously go to sleep now and sleep until tomorrow.  And I had so much fun, but he's killing me with the mixed signals crap.  It all goes back to that yellow/red flag and him just getting out of a 3 year relationship.  I swear, my timing.....boo.

Also, I move in like, 5 days.  I haven't even started packing.  UGHHHHHHHH.

He Just Ka-Kawed At Her!

Last night katmcd and I went to Eastern Market for dinner at Banana Cafe and then to Molly Malone's.  Eastern Market is an interesting phenomenon.  Every time I go there I have a different experience.  Last night we were standing when the bartender just looks at katmcd and says, you, sit there.  So, we sat down. Then she was nice enough to give me a ride home.  I was in bed at 9:30pm, and slept until 9am.  Oh it was so lovely.

Today I've already been super busy, running a ton of errands and I'm feeling pretty good.  I just have a few more things to do, and then I'll be hitting the gym.

Tonight, is BLAKE GRIFFIN NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Game's at 7, and I'm thinking it will be a great night.  I hope.

Somewhat Insulted

I got a wedding invite from a second cousin tonight.  I knew it was coming because my mom texted me asking if I was going.  I had no idea what the hell she was talking about since I thought the wedding was in October, and I had no idea I'd even be invited.

Anyways, there was no save the date and now I'm being told the wedding is at the end of April.  And tonight I got the invite, and I didn't even get a +1.   Really?!  I'm 25, I need a date.  I can't be sitting there at a family wedding, with even my mom and her husband, just chilling by myself.  I'm going to turn into a drunk disaster and I'm going to be not so happy.  Let's also throw this out there...the wedding is in Arizona, not close to DC, not a cheap flight.  I love my family, but I just think this is weird.

I don't know.  Let's just pull a Scarlett O'Hara and say that I'm too tired to think about it today.  I'll just think about it tomorrow.

Must.Stop.Shopping.

Oh boy, I've been on a shopping kick lately.  In the last week and a day or so, I've bought 2 pairs of jeans, a work skirt, 2 tank tops, 2 pairs of shoes, a work bag, and new 600 thread count sheets. And I move in 2 weeks.  Holy crap.

Last Saturday katmcd, Glen Coco, Mike and Mike in the morning, and my coworkers E, B, and K all came out for the DC Leprechaun Lap.  Oh holy crap, it was awesomely fun.  Everybody was blackout, I spent most of yesterday trying to figure out with katmcd and one of the Mikes what the hell happened to us.  We still don't know, but I know we had such a great time.

Work is going well still, really busy as usual.  And I've been going on a few dates/spending time with a good guy.  He treats me really well and I'm pretty happy about that.

This weekend I'm looking forward to floor seats to the Wizards/Clippers game and this man:

This Will Probably Be A Long One

But first I have to pay my respects to a few people.  First is my great-grandmother.  She passed away last week.  She had such a great life, and a long one, 95 years.  Second is someone I didn't know very well, but our paths crossed a few times as he was a friend of my ex's.  His name was Sean, I think he was around my age and he passed away this weekend from a heart attack, or so they think.  So to both of those people, I hope they find peace, and know that lots of people cared for you both.

Now, moving on to good things, there's a few giveaways:
1. My friend Legs over at Steak and Legs is giving away some Disney memorabilia.  Who doesn't love that?
2. Over at Quarter Life Prep, she's celebrating her blogaversary with some awesome prizes.

Moving on from that, work is just moving along very nicely.  It's getting stressful, but I'm still having a great time.

This Saturday a nice group of friends are going to be on a bar crawl in DC for St. Patrick's Day.  Please don't ask me why this is 2 weeks early, because I honestly have NO idea.  I'm really looking forward to because I had such a great time on it last year.

Last weekend was one of my bff MB's birthday.  She chose to go to Mighty Pint to start.  Katmcd was nice enough to pick up some awesome glasses and a sash for MB and then bought us all some beads.  We bounced around there for a while before moving on to Bottom Line.  My Mike from Mike and Mike in the morning was nice enough to come too!  He's really pleasantly surprised me, and I get to see him twice this week.  He is exciting and treats me well.  I hope he thinks the same of me (exciting, kind, fun).  Anyways, MB had a great time and everyone was just in a good mood.  It was a wonderful weekend.

Tonight was terrible on the metro, but MB and I went on a really nice trip to Pentagon City and I bought some good stuff, and then I went to the gym.  It was a very up and down Monday.

OH FML.  I just got an email from my ex.

Going Out On School Nights

Oh crap, Sarg went out on a school night and had tooooooooo much fun.  Last night, my little from my sorority who works part time at Sign of the Whale invited me to their staff invite night.  It was a free hour of open bar from 9 to 10.  So MB and I trekked there, and on the way saw something like this van:

It pulled over right as we were walking by, but then I noticed it was a church group, and they had a few more not-so-creepy vans behind it.  Weird.

Then, Zig came and met us and we enjoyed the free hour of booze and then it started to get crowded....really crowded.  Zig said he had a friend who was bartending like at the next bar, Mighty Pint, so we went there.  On our way out of Sign of the Whale I had a traumatizing sighting of my ex from college.

At Mighty Pint, Becky from Becky's Fund (of whom I've gone to Gold Cup with and get their emails, etc) was having some random thing where you vote on her laptop for.....something, and you get a free shot.  So I had that to shake off the ex sighting, and they also were giving out pop chips and MB and Zig confiscated like 5 bags.  It was pretty funny.  Mighty Pint was a total blast, MB and I shortly met these 2 friends, Mike and Mike.  No lie.  Had I mentioned that on Saturday night MB and I met 2 guys named Winston and Vladimir.  We checked their id's naturally.

Anyways, back to Mike and Mike, I have no idea how we even started chatting with them, but I ended up dancing the night away and then we had a nice little evening.  Although I have one complaint, this morning my face was so damn red from his scruff on his face.  Dear friend, shave your face, because it's hurting mine.  K thanks bye.  Anyways, today I was dead.  So dead that I didn't get to work until 11.  Whoops.  Then I had to come home and take a nap because I just can't function.  I'm even skipping the gym tonight because I just don't have the energy, which is unheard of for me.

Well, it's time for some Pretty Little Liars and an early bedtime.

Yesterday Was A Bad Day

Not really bad, I just felt small, like my life wasn't moving forward, even though I know it's far from the truth.  I'm having great adventures, working really hard but enjoying it, and overall things are going well.  Blah.

Today was better.  I came home and killed myself doing spin and then zumba.  I've got an early happy hour, but I'm really excited because tomorrow night I'm going to Mr Days for Happy Hour.  It's some charity thing thrown for my friend at work's friend.  Did you follow that one?  Anyways, there's a date auction and my work friend K tried to get me to be in it.  Uhm, I'm all for meeting people, but selling myself, not happening.  EVER.  1. I have stage fright like whoa.  2. I am confident, but I don't honestly think I'm pretty or gorgeous or deserving of a paid date.  I can't even get a normal date.  Don't get my wrong, I'm not horrible (check the Buenos Dias link for proof), but jeez, that'd be too much for me.  Anyways, if you're around, come support a good cause, and see me get drunk.  Something like that.

Also, somewhat unrelated to everything else, Monday night I took Body Pump at Golds.  Basically it's a class where you lift weights non-stop for an hour at a heart-pumping pace...hahah something like that.  BITCH KILLED ME.  My triceps hate her.  And it's like, 2 days later.

Well ya'll, I hope you had a nice week and are looking forward to a great weekend.

Shiny Happy People

I realize that isn't the real video but the original video wouldn't let me fucking embed it.  Of course.

Anyways, I really love love REM.  Seriously, I had my first encounter with them when I was about 10 and I've had a secret soft-spot for them ever since.

I could not ask for better friends.  After a 60 hour work week, I love that I can count on them to party like the best of them with me.  Last night mb, katmcd, and I went to Bottom Line.  Glen Coco came for a while too!  After a while, I was just not having the greatest time and was thinking that I was just wasting time and money and since I have volleyball today I closed my tab around 12 with every intention of going home.  No later than me putting down the pen I signed my check with do I look to my right and see Banana Bread Ray!  BBR is a friend of mb and I's who we met actually while watching football last year (2009) at the pub.  He is legitimately the nicest guy ever and his friends were hilarious.  We ended up hanging out with them and taking yeager bombs (I had at least 2....ick) and having a great time until the bar started to close up.  The best part.....my tab was $10.  I FUCKING LOVE THE BOTTOM LINE.

And not to toot my own horn, but I curled my hair last night and this morning it looks fucking amazing.  What the hell?  Ok, I'll take it.

And now, off to volleyball!

I Love Conference Calls

Today my schedule was:
8am con call
1:30 con call
8pm con call (I'm waiting for that one now)

Tomorrow my schedule is:
6:30am con call (being picked up to go to the office at 6:10am...UUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH)
8am con call
9am meeting
8pm con call

I was so incredibly busy and productive that it was fabulous.  I forgot how much I like being a go-to person at work and being able to joke around but be amazing at work.  Not to toot my own horn obviously.

I'm ready for happy hour on Thursday and I'm ready to meet more people (cough:men:cough).  I'm still happy despite what happened yesterday and I'm feeling refreshed, which after 7, almost 8 years in 1 location, is really hard to do.  DC has now surpassed Texas as the second longest time I've lived in 1 area.  Weird.

Also, I'm so ready for warm weather.  Was yesterday not the most ridiculous teaser?  I dream of the days when I'll be tubing down the river, chilling at the pool, playing softball with friends, and patio drinking.

Life Fail

Well maybe not a life fail, but a life downer.  Super Bowl weekend was just amazing.  Buffalo Billiards for the UFC fight, Front Page for tequila and men, and a family football Sunday.  Seriously fun.   I have a new chatty, meet people life and it's going..........well, I think.

Today I didn't get my coffee date, but that's ok.  I wrote earlier that I would be fine if he didn't show.  Granted, I wasn't alone and I didn't stay past actually just getting my own coffee.  That's what 2pm meetings will do to you.

This week, my coworker B is going under for ACL repair.  While I feel bad for him, he's leaving at the worst time ever.  But I can't focus on that because I have 8am and 8pm calls, and a PACKED work schedule.  I keep telling myself, get to Thursday, get to Thursday.  YAY LA TASCA and sangria with katmcd and mb.  I'm kind of excited because this is the time I will prove to my bosses and myself that I can do this job and do it well.  Wish me luck!

So Now I Get Dates on the Metro?

Last night was quite possibly the best Thursday that I've had in months.  MB and I had plans to go to the DC Auto Show and see Randy Orton.

GOOD LORD THAT MAN IS HOT.  He is as hot in person as he is on tv.  I realize that someone like him would never ever want anybody like me, and I would really not ever want to be with someone like him.  But goodness, I'm going to keep on looking.

After walking around for a bit, checking out cars and people-watching, we headed to Bar Louie to get these amazing S'more martinis and some dinner.  The service was awkwardly slow and we decided to go to half-price pitcher night at La Tasca.  Of course, sangria=happy sarg.  After 2 pitchers and a fabulous time with mb, we walked to the metro.  The wait for the red line was like 2 seconds, but at Metro Center, we had almost 20 minutes, but a blue line was coming.  We were drunk and decided to get on and take it to Rosslyn to get a change of scenery (why?  who fucking knows.) As we walked on the train, we notice the floors are really dark and there's something going on with the chairs.  It looked like we had walked on to the fucking Champagne Room of the metro.  Like, carpet/crushed velvet seats, and dark floors.  We were mesmerized the entire ride to Rosslyn.

Once there, we drunkenly stumbled off the metro and start walking just like 10 feet to a spot with like, less people.  On our way there, I almost walk into this guy, and he just kind of stops and stares, to which I respond (in true How I Met Your Mother fashion) Hi, have you met mb?  We ended up chatting it up with this guy the entire wait for the orange line, and then on the metro until Courthouse when he got off.  It was kind of random, like why was he taking the metro 1 stop, and why did we decide randomly to take the blue line instead of just waiting it out.  Anyways, he works in Rosslyn, ironically for one of my competitors.  On his way out, totally out of the blue he says, ok, Starbucks 1:30 on Monday?  I blank stared for a while, and he was like, yes 1:30 Monday.  Oh ok.  So quite possibly on Monday I'll be meeting this guy.  It was one of those very weird exchanges that I re-live and think, did that just happen?

If nothing else, even if this guy doesn't show up on Monday or we just have coffee and do nothing else, the chat last night was what I needed.  It was the slap in the face that I needed to wake up and pull out of the random man coma I was in.  I laughed a lot about it today.

Obsession

I've talked once or twice about my music taste and random obsessions that I have over songs.  This isn't a new song by any means, but I heard it today on Elliot in the Morning on DC101 and downloaded it today and have been listening to it at least 10 times today.  I just imagine that I would be at a huge party dancing around, drinking, and losing myself.

Speaking of random things that I like, have you seen Up?  That movie is FUCKING HILARIOUS.  The part where they meet the talking dog Doug?  RIDICULOUS.

That Time I Got Punched in a Semi-Formal Dress

Last night was my firm's Winter Social and let me just say...SUCCESS.  I hosted a wonderful pregame.  Lots of food and really fun people from work and of course my date for the evening, katmcd.  Everyone was dressed up and looking gorgeous.  At around 8:15 we hopped in 3 cabs and headed for the National Building Museum.  The building was just as gorgeous as I remember.  We checked our coats and started heading for the food and for the bar.

The place is so big, and there were SO many people there, that honestly we all got separated, but thanks to the invention of cell phones, we all met up at Rocket Bar with Zig.  I dont' know how, but my entire project team showed up there, minus my friend E of course.  I have NO clue where she wandered off to after the Building Museum.  Anyways, I started to lose my sense of......self control(?) again and started bouncing around.  Zig and katmcd eventually both left and I stayed.  I was hanging out with people that I have seen in like 2 months, and then of course my project team who are AMAZING.

I am not sure why, but I think I got punched or like, knocked in the jaw by my coworker.  No clue.  Then when I woke up this morning there was basically a warped piece of pizza sitting on my stove top.  Wtf?  I guess I came home and tried to cook it but didn't pay attention and it was burnt to a crisp.  Kind of sad right?

Tonight...Rira.  Watch out!

Death and Taxes

Quite a bit is happening right now.  Because I now have a move date, I'm going through my apartment and analyzing if I actually need things.  It's applying to all areas of my life now though.  Trying to get my debt all settled, cleaning out all of my old clothes, and getting my taxes done.  Stupid stupid taxes.  But I feel good and accomplished, which I needed.

Also, how great is the movie Stranger than Fiction?  Really good.

Anyways, totally unrelated, I've been thinking a lot about the mess I've become in my personal life over the last few weeks and I've come to a conclusion.  I know how much other bloggers I read love graphs so I'm obliging:

As I become happier in my job, I become more of a hot mess at an exponential rate.  Therefore, high job satisfaction=high level of hot mess.  It's amazing how much job satisfaction affects me.

This Friday is my company's Winter Social.  It's at the National Building Museum which is a gorgeous building that I once went to and had a horrible NYE at.  I'm looking forward to erasing that memory.  I'm having a quick little get-together before the party and then will most likely be at RiRa to see a friend's band.  And I'm hoping to have a fabulous dress to wear.  Yay awesome weekend coming up.  But first, must get through this week.

Open Letter to Myself

Dear Self,

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!?!  I tell you to do something, and you sprint, not run but sprint, the other other damn direction.  I'm totally hating on you right now.  I'm going to take the next 24-48 hours to find my self-control and hopefully I can get back to loving you.

Thanks bitch.
-Sarah

On a sidenote, Zig, his friend A, and I went to the caps game last night and had a fabulous time.  I'm HURTING today.  Off to Starbucks and work now.

Lo Siento

I haven't been writing for absolutely no reason.  I have a ton going on.  Friday night I found out that Zig and I got our apartment and we move in March.  Luckily for me, I'm just moving 3 floors, he's moving from DC.   Hahahaha.  Awesome.  I'm kind of looking forward to having a roommate again.

Work is going really well.  I love my team, and after this meeting on Thursday, my coworker B and I were talking about how our team is a bunch of like, clownish misfits.  We are so different comparative to other teams.  We're very good, but we come off much less serious.  It's awesome.

Today is volleyball day, followed by day drinking while watching MB's Bears win against the pack.

Also, let me digress for a minute about my trip to Target yesterday.  I went to the one in Alexandria even though I know traffic down there sucks.  I just need to remember, never go to that Target during the weekend.  It was a horrible disaster.  I played bumper carts with everyone and they didn't even have half the stuff I wanted/needed.  It was stupid.

F'ing Bambi Legs

Want to know what I look like while I'm ice skating?  Here it is:

You think I'm kidding?  Look at this picture of Zig and I from last week.

He's like my Thumper.  Get your mind out of the gutter.  K thanks.  This was about 5 minutes after I took a bambi spill and superman-d on the ice.   And he had to be a f'ing showoff and skate backwards.  But then he fell and I laughed.

Then today on my walk to work, my bambi legs were back in action as I slipped and slided on my 2.5 block walk to the metro.

When is it going to be window-down weather?
